In Amsterdam, by luck, I met Lino Hellings. She advised me to keep my work diary on-line, exposing my work methods rather than protecting them, risking the humiliation involved in failure. So:celebrate error. In my heart I knew this to be a good idea. My brain, horrified, fortunately tells me it will be too boring for anyone to read.

Went into the mountains with Kat and Margaret and needless to say, did practically no work - but I did some Chinese ink drawing which seemed right for the sheer craggy mountains. Wrong paper. Too absorbent. Good fun though results useless.
AlanGilliland 1977. An irrelevant aside: after studying at the Architectural Association in London, during which I drove Bucky Fuller from Heathrow to the RIBA (Royal INstitute of British Architects) to lecture there – an inspirational trip for me in my old MINI Countryman with wooden framed sides (which he loved) – in the doldrums, post college, I was working on a steel tube cutting machine in a dangerous factory, while reading a now very oily ‘Platform for Change’ – the senior management from HQ arrived for an inspection. Spotting me, they demanded that I be sacked on the spot! My line manger stepped in tio say, “But, but – he has the highest production figures in the factory”. I was saved, only to leave shortly afterwards with machine-oil urticaria. If only those mangers had known and understood just what I was reading!
